7 Billion and Counting

From Quirks and Quarks

The world's population has more than doubled in the last 50 years. 4 billion new humans since 1950.
Is the human population in overshoot - that is, already past the carrying capacity of the planet, using fossil fuels to feed and sustain the population?  What is the carrying capacity of the earth?  Dr Madeline Weld suggests that it may be as low as 100 million to a maximum of 2 billion.  With this in mind, will populations stabilize, or will there be rising death rates?

This is a riveting discussion - if unsettling
